How would you like to spend a relaxed and informative week at one of the most glorious locations in the Highlands, whilst learning about, and singing, some of the Gaelic songs relating to the Jacobite era; one of the most fascinating periods in the history of our nation?

Throughout the course we will cover the historical detail of the songs, from the time of the birth of the Jacobite era, through to the ‘15’, the ‘45’ the Battle of Culloden and its aftermath.  In the middle of the week we will take a day-trip, with packed-lunch, to the mainland, using the college mini-bus, and visit some of the historic places relevant to our course material. I shall be using  archive recordings from the Tobar and Dualchais website http://www.tobarandualchais.com and my own singing to teach and illustrate some of the songs.

Come together for a relaxing week of song and lore in the ‘Garden of Skye’. You don’t have to be a singer or a Gaelic speaker to take part in this five-day course, but by the end of our time together you will have picked up enough songs and Gaelic to get you started.

Join us, participate, share information, chat and sing.  It’s not just a singing course, it’s a cultural experience!

Margaret Stewart hails from the village of Upper Coll, on the Isle-of-Lewis. She is a native Gaelic speaker and has been singing from an early age.
