Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI has greatly expanded since its inception over 40 years ago. It now encompasses not only the original Àrainn Ostaig campus, but also Àrainn Chaluim Chille, Fàs and the latest development, Ionad Iain Nobail.
Ionad Iain Nobail is the first building in the new Kilbeg Development and was officially opened in October 2015 by the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon MSP. Built as a centre for Academic, Research, Knowledge Transfer and Enterprise, IIN is named in memory of the late Sir Iain Noble who was instrumental in the establishment and early development of the College.
The Kilbeg initiative will result in the creation of the first new ‘planned village’ on Skye, in almost 100 years and is, therefore, of great historical significance. It will also build upon the significant socio-economic impact which the College has had in the region since its founding by Sir Iain Noble in 1973.
The new village will be formed on land recently purchased by Sabhal Mòr with the generous support of the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Development Trust.
Future phases of the wider Master plan provide for a range of housing, retail and enterprise units, a small hotel and sports and recreation facilities for Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and the wider community.
