Bio

Christina Walker has been a member of the Board since 2009. Born and raised in the Isle of Lewis, she is a native speaker of Gaelic. She had her secondary school education at the Nicholson Institute, Stornoway and went on to achieve a degree in Gaelic and French from the University of Aberdeen. Christina trained as a secondary school teacher in both languages and in 2000 she was instrumental in establishing the designated secondary Gaelic school in Aberdeen City Council, to ensure the continuity of Gaelic education for the pupils who were progressing from Gaelic medium primary, where she had spent some time teaching, in order to further her personal professional development as a teacher educator.

Having worked in Northern College from 1994, she was appointed full-time Lecturer in Gaelic Medium Education at Aberdeen University in 2002 and has since been very actively engaged in the initial teacher education and continuing professional development of both primary and secondary Gaelic teachers. Christina is also involved in all Gaelic related developments within the School of Education at the University of Aberdeen and in the wider university community and in many initiatives relating to Gaelic education at national level.
