Description

The BA (Hons) Gaelic and Media Studies is a stimulating and vocational programme enabling you to gain fluency in Gaelic, and to apply your language skills to the study of contemporary media.

The media studies elements are principally theoretical in nature. They aim to raise your awareness of the cultural, social, political and technological contexts within which the media operates, with special regard to broadcasting, internet and film.

You will also undertake practical projects using up-to-date digital technology, leading to a better understanding of the implementation of theory as well as preparing you for employment.

Course Content

You will be expected to have a basic knowledge of Gaelic when joining the course and, depending on your ability, will either study on the intensive Gaelic course, An Cùrsa Comais, or Gàidhlig is Conaltradh in your first year.

In second year subjects covered include Gaelic language; media studies; writing for radio and television; and mass media and culture.

Year three includes enquiry skills, Scotland and cinema, creative writing and media regulation.

To complete fourth year you will undertake a dissertation as well as a number of modules such as the media in Ireland, radio productionand audience research.
