Description

An Cùrsa Comais is an intensive language learning course designed for intermediate level learners whose aim is fluency in the language. The major focus is on language skills, both speaking and writing, but other subjects will be introduced as the course progresses. Students on An Cùrsa Comais undertake a three week work placement within a Gaelic setting as part of the Greis-gnìomhachais module.

Course Content

The course is made up of six modules. Each student follows five compulsory modules including communication skills, formal and professional language and The Gaelic World . Students choose another optional module which can include computing, music performance, Gaelic in the media and Gaelic in the community.

Entry Requirements

For direct entry to the Cert HE An Cùrsa Comais:

SQA passes in five different subjects including two Highers, preferrably including Higher Gaelic

Other equivalent qualifications may be acceptable subject to the discretion of the programme leader

Students without an SQA pass in Gaelic must satisfy the college of their ability in Gaelic

Places will be offered following an interview with the Course Leader to assess fluency in Gaelic

For applicants with little or no previous knowledge of Gaelic, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig offers An Cùrsa Inntrigidh, a distance learning course which aims to prepare students for entry to year one of the degrees.
