2013 sees the return of world renowned Scottish fiddle player Alasdair Fraser and incredibly his 27th annual fiddle camp hosted by Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Joining him at his only fiddle camp of this kind in Europe and for another year at the College is the highly respected American cellist Natalie Haas.
The emphasis of this camp designed by Alasdair Fraser himself is on creativity and enjoyment of the music with plenty of opportunities for playing fiddle and cello in groups of all sizes and abilities, participation in daily workshops, nightly sessions and a huge finale cèilidh at the end of the week! There will also be an opportunity to play for and take part in step dancing & Gaelic workshops through the week.
The camp usually begins with registration lunchtime on Saturday afternoon. We therefore recommend arriving the previous evening for the opening concert which also gives you a chance to get settled for this intensive week’s instruction and socialising!
Tuition ends on Friday afternoon but is followed by the course cèilidh that usually ends sometime on Saturday morning! We therefore recommend that students request accommodation for that Friday night in addition to the rest of the week. We also recommend booking early to avoid disappointment as this course is always over subscribed!
Some comments from the past two years:
- “This is more than a course, this is an experience!”
- “The entire week flew by! It was fabulous!”
- “It was great to come and learn with Alasdair in beautiful Skye and we even got to perform live for the Scottish first minister Alex Salmond!”
- “This is a must for me every year!”
The full list of tutors working with Alasdair Fraser this year will appear in due course.
