The course is pitched towards beginners of digital photography. Through a mixture of workshops, discussions, field trips and demonstrations we aim to achieve a good level of photographic competency in participants. The course culminates with an exhibition in Àrainn Chaluim Cille of a selection of participants' work during the week. Expert tuition combined with the facilities of the College and the wonderful variety of local scenery will ensure that this is an informative and pleasurable experience.
Threading through the course will be a series of inputs dealing with the principles of photography, the history of photography in Scotland and the Gàidhealtachd and sessions on digital photographic manipulation.
Participants should bring a camera to the course and, where possible, a laptop loaded with their favoured photographic software (preferably Photoshop or Photoshop Elements). However, the lack of a laptop neither excludes individuals from the course nor makes it any less fulfilling as participants have ready access to a suite of College computers loaded with Photoshop Elements 10. This course is largely conducted through the medium of English to make it accessible to all, although Cailean is a fluent native Gaelic speaker!
Participants are advised to bring their own camera with them.
Here are some comments from the same course in 2012:
- “Hugely enjoyable”
- “The day trips were a great way to see and picture other parts of Skye whilst based at the College”
- “Lovely atmosphere in the group. A thoroughly enjoyable week which passed so quickly!”
- “It was really good to get inspiration of the other students.”
