Learning through Living Culture in Flodigarry

                        Course Dates for 2017

            19 - 23 June

         21 - 25 August

In partnership with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Flodigarry Township Trust are running two of their distinctive community-based courses in 2017. The 5-day residential course is designed for Fluent speakers and advanced learners of Gaelic who wish to improve their oral and literary skills, as well as deepen their knowledge of Gaelic literature, history, culture and music in the heart of a thriving Gaelic community in North Skye, with over 100 people taking part and enjoying them so far.

The week includes a mixture of tutors and contributors, and includes outdoor learning, music tutorials and class-based workshops. This course is a unique immersion experience for learners who seek to reach fluency in their studies or profession, as well as for those who wish to reach fluency for personal development.

The courses are intended for fluent speakers who wish to develop their language skills and also for upper intermediate or advanced learners of Gaelic (for example, SMO level 6 or higher). The week will include visits to sites of special historical and cultural interest in the Trotternish peninsula where the students will have the opportunity to learn from local people who are specialists in subjects such as palaeontology, poetry and place names of North Skye, to give just a few examples.  The course will also look at the local Gaelic-speaking crofting community, its traditions and current practices, as well as some of the issues the people here face as a community.  The course will be conducted in Gaelic and gives the special chance to meet local people who are happy to share a deep knowledge of their area, spoken in the Gaelic of their community.

The course will be based in the Dun Flodigarry Hostel where the workshops will be held. The evenings will offer the opportunity to socialise with other learners in local homes, with great music and friendly craic.

As usual, the price of the course includes dinner Monday to Thursday, prepared by the generous Flodigarry ladies.
