An Cùrsa Inntrigidh | ||
An Cùrsa Inntrigidh is a supported distance learning course for complete beginners of Gaelic:
Student Handbook 2008 - 2009
Assessment Regulations and Mitigating Circumstances
What does this course entail? The course is about gaining the confidence to use your Gaelic practically, with priority given to speaking and listening skills. It takes advantage of new technology to reach those people who are too far away or whose schedule makes it impractical to attend existing courses. Workbooks and accompanying CDs allow students to work at any time of day or night that suits and weekly conversation classes through teleconferencing offer the opportunity to chat to tutors and practice with others on the course. Weekend schools held at the College offer the opportunity to consolidate and put into practice what has been learned, as well as the chance to get to know students and tutors in a convivial Gaelic atmosphere. What do you need to begin? You don't need any previous knowledge of Gaelic - the course is designed for beginners, and there are no formal entry requirements. If you do have some prior knowledge of Gaelic and / or if you are an experienced learner, you might like to join the Accelerated Track of the course - please see course timetables. Breaking the loneliness of the long-distance Gaelic learner Distance learning has often been a lonely experience. With An Cùrsa Inntrigidh you organise most of your learning time yourself, and learn in your own location, but not in isolation. You learn as part of a group, and support is available all the way, through phone, e-mail and bulletin board contact. You have a learning calendar to track targets, and even though you might be in deepest Surrey or far-flung Nebraska, you could be connected with the Scottish Gaidhealtachd every week, talking to a tutor in Skye, Mull or wherever. How far does it take me? On successfully completing Earrann 3 you can expect to participate with confidence in Gaelic conversation. The certificate you will be awarded qualifies you for entry (subject to interview) to An Cùrsa Comais, which is also Level 1 of the Gaelic and Related Studies Degree Scheme offered at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and at other institutes in the UHI Millenium Institute, i.e. Ionad Chaluim Chille Ìle, Lews Castle College and Inverness College. Alternatively, you can register for An Cùrsa Adhartais, the distance-learning course which is the next stage to fluency. An Cùrsa Adhartais uses the same teaching and language methodologies as An Cùrsa Inntrigidh. An Cùrsa Adhartais will start on 6 November 2006, subject to validation by UHI. To apply online for An Cùrsa Inntrigidh, please complete the enquiry form. For further information please contact: Online Courses Team
