Community Open Day at Sabhal Mòr OstaigCoimhearsnachd

The Gaelic College Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Sleat on the Isle of Skye is inviting the public to its community open day on Thursday 10 September from 1.00pm. This will also be the first week of students returning for a new academic session with the College anticipating over 170 enrolling on its Higher Education courses and around 80 living in its accommodation on campus.

The main aim of the open day is to give the community of Sleat and Strath the chance to find out more on the work and development plans of the College and to meet its students. As such, events will begin at 1.00pm with the opening of the new College shop in Àrainn Chaluim Chille. There will also be the opportunity to tour the College’s facilities at 2.00pm, 4.00pm and 6.00pm with a cèilidh and dance featuring staff and students beginning at 8.30pm. Several community groups associated with the College will give short presentations at 3.00pm and 5.00pm with the opportunity at 7.15pm to hear more on the proposed Kilbeg village developments.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Principal, Professor Boyd Robertson is keen to foster interest in the work of the College throughout Skye and the the West Highlands:- “Sabhal Mòr has a pivotal role in the economic, social and cultural life of Sleat and Strath and the College is keen to develop further its inter-connectivity with the community.  There have been a number of significant developments at the College in the past year and a half including the opening of the Centre for Creative and Cultural industries in the new Fàs building and the Open Day affords an opportunity for people throughout Skye and Lochalsh to visit the Campus and see the facilities and the services the College has to offer. I hope many will accept the invitation to come and hear about activities at the College, meet students and staff, view presentations and see plans for future developments.”
