SABHAL MÒR OSTAIG VALIDATES MA IN MATERIAL CULTURE AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig's academic provision took a major step forward last Friday, 6 May, with the validation of a Postgraduate MA in Material Culture and the Environment.
Material Culture examines the artefacts, the objects, material and functional items which are held in museum collections and in the landscape and lead us to a deeper understanding of our community, its culture, history and way of life.
John Norman MacLeod, Head of Studies at the College commented:
"The validation of this course is an important step, not only for Sabhal Mòr Ostaig but for UHI Millennium Institute as a whole and for Gaelic. It will allow students to study at this level for the first time through the medium of Gaelic and is an important addition to the curriculum."
It will initially be offered on a part-time basis with students studying at a distance using online learning materials, video and tele-conferencing. Students will also conduct fieldwork and study visits to the College.
The course will
be offered from September 2005.
