It was therefore very pleasing, and very appropriate in many ways for Arainn Chaluim Chille to receive an Environmental Regeneration of Scotland Award in December last and thus help realise further his aspiration for the College.
This award system is administrated by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and Scottish Enterprise and has been in place for some years. It is competed for annually by projects which are not only architecturally noteworthy but which contribute to economic, social and cultural regeneration as well.
Arainn Chaluim Chille was considered by the judges to have more than fulfilled these criteria, by being of world importance and one of the most important economic development initiatives ever undertaken on Skye; by it's symbolism of the renaissance of language and culture and by a fine group of buildings, providing a unique student experience in an inspirational setting.
