Fàilte

Tha e na thoileachas dhomhsa fàilte a chur oirbh chun na cuairt-litir seo.

'S sinn a' streap ri bliadhna ùir eile tha mi a' guidhe dhuibh uile Nollaig Chridheil agus Bliadhna Mhath Ur. 'S e bliadhna air leth trang a bha againn aig an t-Sabhal le tòrr a' tachairt mar is abhaist. Bliadhna shoirbheachail ann an iomadach dòigh 's sinn a' dèanamh an tuilleadh adhartais ann a bhith a' cur ar roi-innleachd an cèill. Tha sinn air an t-slighe airson sàr-ionad a bhios aig cridhe leasachaidhean ann an cànan agus dualchas nan Gaidheal a chruthachadh. Tha àireamh nan oileanach air a dhol am meud gu mòr am bliadhna agus tha sinn air aithne a chosnadh mar ionad far am bheil curraicealam tarraingeach, ùr agus freagarrach ri fhaotainn. Ionad far am faighear ailtearachd mhisneachail, foghlam eifeachdach agus teicneòlas adhartach ag obair an luib a chèile. Tha sinn a' coimhead air adhart ri bliadhna ùr anns am faic sinn an tuilleadh leasachaidh air na pròiseactan anns a bheil sinn an sàs - Oilthigh na Gaidhealtachd, Ionad Chaluim Chille Ile, Tobar an Dualchais agus Iomairt Chalum Chille. Bidh sinn cuideachd a' cur ri ar cuid chùrsaichean agus a' gluasad gu bliadhna urramach anns na ceumanan a tha sinn a' tabhainn. Bidh barrachd cudthrom ga chur cuideachd air obair rannsachaidh.

Bha sinn air leth toilichte am bliadhna fàilte chridheil a chur air an Fhìor Urramach Domhnall Mac an Deòir, MP, MSP, A' Chiad Mhinistear, mar òraidiche airson Oraid an t-Sabhail air 8 Sultain 2000. Thug an òraid gu crìoch seachdain Fhèis Chaluim Chille, far an robh sinn a' cur an cèill ar dlùth cheangal ri ar càirdean às Eirinn troimh thachartasan sònraichte , ceòl , deasbad, na h-ealain agus fealla-dhà gu leòr cuideachd. Fhuair sinn, mar a bha sinn an dùil, deagh òraid agus 's e buille bhròin a bha ann dhuinn uile naidheachd a bhàis a chluinntinn air 11 Dàmhair. Tha ar smuaintean leis an teaghlach.

Mòran taing airson bhur taic 's cuideachadh.

Welcome

Norman N. Gillies It is my pleasure to welcome you to this latest edition of our newsletter.

With a new year fast approaching may I take this opportunity of wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We have had an exceptionally busy year at the College with lots of good things happening. It has been a successful year in many regards and we continued to develop in line with our strategic plan and with our mission of creating a centre of excellence for the development and enhancement of the Gaelic language culture and heritage. Our student numbers are up considerably this year and we are now recognised as a centre providing an innovative, attractive and relevant cuuriculum where dynamic education advanced technology and inspiring architecture meld together to form a unique learning environment. We look forward now to a new year that will see further progress in a range of projects such as the University of the Highlands and Island project, The Columba Centre Islay, The Kist O' Riches and the Columba Initiative. We will also be working towards providing an honours level for our degree courses and to placing more emphasis on academic research.

We were extremely pleased to welcome the Rt. Hon. Donald Dewar, MP, MSP, The First Minister, to the College on 8 September 2000 to deliver the annual Sabhal Mor Lecture. The lecture brought to a close a week of events, Feis Chaluim Chille, when we celebrated, through music, the arts, debate and sheer high spirits, the friendship that exists between Gaelic Scotland and Ireland. The First Minister, as expected, gave us a fine lecture on the day and it was for us such a sad blow to hear the news of his sudden death so soon afterwards on 11 October. Our thoughts are with the family.

Thank you for all your help and support.
