Exciting new opportunity for artists and performers
An exciting new opportunity for artists and performers to engage in new processes or explore new ways of working, encouraging them to reach for the next level.
Funded by Creative Scotland, the initiative is offering six artists awards between 2K & 3K and a smaller award for mentoring and skills development of between £500 & 1K. These awards will focus on the more emergent artists from this area.
The partners; Seall, Aros, Sabhal Mor Ostaig, Fèisean nan Gaidheal and ATLAS Arts are there to support the scheme and the successful applicants. The participants will undertake a programme of activity that draws directly on the expertise and experience of the partner organisations. Additional support will be provided in a variety of ways; involve critical dialogues and feedback sessions, attending events, trying out ideas and offering, as appropriate, a platform for presenting a final outcome or production of work.
Emma Nicolson ATLAS director said…”We were delighted when Creative Scotland asked ATLAS Arts if it would manage a fund being offered to this area to develop emerging talent across all artforms. Local talent will be given the opportunity to develop and share their work. It is also about developing the peer network and using the infrastructure of venues, organisations and expertise to support and contribute to the artist’s development and offer opportunities to showcase and profile the artists being funded. This may involve appointing or acting as mentors, bringing expertise to the island for master classes and providing opportunities that enable the artists to deliver their work to audiences in Skye and or beyond”.
The main aim of the awards is to offer artistic and professional development opportunities that respond to; and support, the needs of artists as they change throughout their career, from those of recent graduates and emerging artists.
Applications are invited from residents in Skye and Lochalsh or those born here or completed their secondary education in the area. Those with a strong track record should be thinking about their practice at a national level. This means an application directly to Creative Scotland would be more appropriate, as this scheme is separate to what they are offering.
The closing date for the first round is Friday 10 January 2014. Applications and guidelines can be downloaded from http://www.atlasarts.org.uk or contact rosie@atlasarts.org.uk or call 7787551847 for more information.
