Advanced Conversation Online with Alec ‘Valtos’ MacDonald

This course has been created for those you have already reached a level of competency in the language, but who wish to further hone their skills and take their proficiency to the next level.  Although emphasis will be placed on developing spoken, listening and pronunciation skills, you will also have an opportunity to examine and learn more about the heart and soul of the language through sayings, proverbs, idioms and dialect.

The course consists of nine classes over three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with three online classes each day at 09.30 – 10.45, 11.15 – 12.30 and 13.30 – 15.00, all delivered via Zoom.  Where possible classes will be limited to 8 students instead of the usual 12.

A native speaker from the Isle of Skye itself, Alec ‘Valtos’ MacDonald has been greatly involved in the world of radio and television broadcasting as well as Gaelic language education for adults at every level. Apart from teaching in the Gaelic Department of Aberdeen University, his teaching abilities are also in high demand amongst varying organisations and groups, and this has taken him not only all over Scotland but also as far as Canada, the United States and Germany. You will hear Alec on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal, and he is heavily involved in the translation of scripts for children’s cartoons as well as delivering the voices for said cartoons.
