The course is pitched towards enthusiastic amateurs of digital photography who have a basic knowledge of cameras and wish to improve their skills through learning more about a wide range of aspects of photography including composition, techniques and settings.

Through a mixture of field trips, workshops, discussions and demonstrations we aim to achieve a good level of photographic competency in participants. Threading through the course will be a series of inputs dealing with the principles of photography, some history of the local area including placenames and possibly folklore. The course culminates with an exhibition of a selection of participants’ work during the week.

As part of the course, you will get an understanding of the basic but essential controls of a camera. Understanding these controls and how they work will mean you can confidently use your camera and give you the skills to deal with many different photo opportunities, which could include landscapes, portraiture, nature and shooting in low light.

Participants must bring a camera to the course and, where possible, a laptop loaded with their favoured photographic software (preferably Photoshop or Photoshop Elements).

Expert tuition combined with the facilities of the College and the wonderful variety of local scenery will ensure that this is an informative and pleasurable experience.  This course is largely conducted through the medium of English to make it accessible to all, although Cailean is a fluent native Gaelic speaker so you’re bound to pick up some useful Gaelic!
