Profile
Muriel Urquhart teaches on An Cùrsa Comais, our extremely popular Gaelic immersion course on campus, and our online distance learning Gaelic courses for beginners and intermediates – An Cùrsa Inntrigidh and An Cùrsa Adhartais.
Born and raised in Gress on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Muriel didn’t speak a word of English until she went to school, where English was the only medium of education at the time.
She decided at a young age that she wanted to be a teacher, and after completing a degree in Gaelic and Geography at Aberdeen University, Muriel went on to study teaching at Jordanhill, Strathclyde University.
Before coming to teach at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig 14 years ago, Muriel was a presenter on the first ever Gaelic news programme, Telefios, on Grampian TV, and also worked as a presenter on Radio nan Gàidheal.
You can still hear Muriel present BBC Radio nan Gàidheal’s popular request show on Friday night, ‘Na Dùrachdan’.
