If you get in touch with us, we can usually answer most of your questions before you come. But here are a few of the more common enquiries about living on campus:
1. Can you guarantee me a place in College accommodation?
All full-time students are guaranteed a place in College accommodation upon acceptance to the course of their choice.
2. Should I bring my own bedding or towels?
Only if you want to. The College supplies bedding and towels and rooms are serviced weekly.
3. Is there a campus shop?
There is, selling stationery, course books and a small range of other essentials. There is a local grocer’s shop two miles away and a supermarket in the nearby town of Broadford.
4. Is there an ATM at the College?
Yes! The ATM is situated in ACC as you enter through the main door.
5. Is there a student union?
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig has a bar on-site which is open at various times through the week and for ceilidhs, dances, music sessions and other events throughout the year. Comann nan Oileanach, the student association, is responsible for the student building sited close to accommodation at Àrainn Ostaig, which students are encouraged to use and look after as their own.
6. How much does it cost to stay on campus?
Accommodation fees include room, meals and related relevant services. All the accommodation fees for 2024-25 can be found here.
7. Will I be able to access the internet?
Students have unlimited access to the internet. Free Wi-Fi and an internet port are provided in all of the study bedrooms.
8. Where can I make a cup of tea or get a quick bite to eat?
Lounge areas with televisions, DVD players and a small kitchen are situated within or nearby each residential block. Some of the study bedrooms also have their own kettle. You can also purchase hot drinks and snacks from the shop situated in ACC, as well as from Café Ostaig in the IIN building.
9. Will there be room for my bike or car?
There is ample parking at the College and we also operate a Bicycle Scheme, as well as providing bike storage facilities.
10. Is there a mobile phone signal?
Yes!
11. Will I have to vacate my room at any time?
You will have to vacate your rooms at Easter and Christmas. If you are in first year, you will also have to vacate your room when you go on Work Experience – unless your placement is in Skye.
12. Is there a warden on campus?
There is a warden on the campus 24/7 and can be contacted at any time.
13. What if I’m not happy with the room I am in?
If you wish to move to another room, you will have to discuss this with the Facilities Manager. It may not be possible to relocate you, but we will do our best to assist where we can.
14. What do I do if I lose my room key or fob?
If you lose your key or fob, you will be able to pick up a replacement at the main reception. There is a cost of £40 for a replacement – £20 for a new key and £20 for a new fob. If you lose your key or fob during the night, you will have to contact the warden.
15. Where do we get our meals at the college?
All meals are served in the canteen located in Àrainn Chaluim Chille, but there is also Café IIN which provides soup, sandwiches, tea, coffee and home baking through the day.
16. What do I do if I have special dietary requirements?
There is an option on the accommodation application form for you to insert any dietary requirements you may have, and we will be able to pass this information onto the catering facility who will be able to facilitate your needs.
