UK & EU STUDENTS
From week long courses to honours degrees, the courses provided by Sabhal Mòr Ostaig are both practical and relevant. The College is unrivalled in its approach to teaching through the medium of Gaelic and you won’t find a more suitable place to improve your Gaelic skills.
Undergraduate
Individual courses have their own entry requirements and you will find further information on the course section. All full-time courses are taught through the medium of Gaelic; therefore, a level of competence in the language is required on entry. In widening access to its courses, the College provides a clearly defined course progression system: from the short course programme to distance learning options, through to undergraduate and postgraduate study.
If you are applying for a degree course and you are a school leaver or are applying to multiple universities/colleges, then you must apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). This is the central admissions service for all universities and colleges of higher education in the UK. All prospective students can apply online.
UCAS Code
- Institution Name: HIP
- Code: H49
- Campus: K
There are various deadlines for UCAS applications depending on the choice of course, entry year and country of domicile. The College encourages prospective students to submit applications as early as possible but may consider late applications. Applicants will also have the opportunity to secure a place through clearing, depending on the number of available places on the chosen course. Clearing usually runs from mid-July until mid-September.
Once an application has been processed by UCAS, the College will request an interview, either at the College or on the phone. Interviews are primarily to assess students’ ability in Gaelic, to ensure they are applying for the appropriate course. Applicants for the BA Gaelic and Traditional Music course will also be required to undertake an entrance audition.
Students will be notified of the College’s decision by UCAS. After accepting an offer, prospective students will be sent further information about accommodation and finance.
If you are not a school leaver and wish to apply for a course at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig you can contact the Registry & Admissions Office for an application form:
