RESEARCH PROJECTS

The College is involved in a number of leading research projects including Ionad Nàiseanta na h-Imrich, the National Centre for Migration Studies, and Soillse, a collaborative research initiative with UHI and the Universities of Aberdeen.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is also home to a number of creative and cultural projects including Sealladh & Young Films, Tobar an Dualchais, the Gaelic dictionary project, Faclair na Gàidhlig and Lèirsinn, the College’s research base.  Further information on these projects can be found below.

Tobar an Dualchais – Kist o Riches

Tobar an Dualchais is an online digital collection of several thousand hours of Gaelic and Scots recordings.

Gaelic Place-Names of Scotland

The national advisory partnership for Gaelic place-names in Scotland.

Faclair na Gàidhlig

This inter-university initiative aims to produce a historical dictionary of Scottish Gaelic.

Soillse

Soillse is a research collaboration to provide research into the maintenance and revitalisation of Gaelic language and culture.

Clò Ostaig

Clò Ostaig is Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s imprint which began in the eighties with the first volume being published in 1981.
