WELCOME
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture. Based in Sleat, Isle of Skye, we are the only centre of Higher and Further Education in the world that provides its learning programmes entirely through the medium of Gaelic in an immersed, language-rich environment.
We offer a range of learning opportunities, both on campus and via distance learning, full-time and part-time, for anyone with an interest in Gaelic.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is a modern, innovative college and has excellent learning resources on-campus, including an exceptional library collection, broadcast and recording facilities, residential student accommodation and a Gaelic-medium childcare facility.
Our activities are greatly enhanced by cooperative links within the wider Gaelic community, and we host a number of creative and cultural projects such as Tobar an Dualchais, Faclair na Gàidhlig, the multimedia and design company Cànan Graphics Studio as well as a programme of residencies for artists in music, literature and the visual arts.
Founded in 1973 in the old farm steadings at Ostaig, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig promotes the revitalisation of the Gaelic language and culture through world-class education, research, training and economic opportunities. Today, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the biggest employer of Scottish Gaelic speakers in the world.
We hope you will get the chance to visit us soon. We look forward to welcoming you.
