Coronavirus COVID-19 – Latest Update

Information for Students, Employees and Visitors

CORONAVIRUS – UPDATE

As you will have seen and heard, the national guidance has changed with much stricter measures now in place to try and protect people from the Coronavirus.  Both the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon outlined the only reasons we should be leaving our homes, as follows:

  • To buy essentials, and as infrequently as possible
  • To get some daily exercise outdoors, once a day
  • For medical reasons or to provide support to a vulnerable person
  • To travel to and from work, where it is essential, and where working from home is not possible

We will therefore stick to the decisions we made yesterday and the College buildings will be closed from today onwards excluding Block C which is home to some of our students.  A member of the maintenance team will be around during the day and our Warden through the night.

Managers will be in touch with you shortly to discuss work plans, means of communication and any other points for discussing.

We would urge all members of staff to follow the national guidelines.  By staying at home, you are potentially saving lives.

All relevant public health information, including regular updates, is posted  on the NHS inform website.

If people have any concerns about their health in relation to suspected coronavirus, we ask that they follow current advice and contact NHS24 by calling 111 for advice.

Having ceased face-to-face teaching on campus, wehave now moved to home-working and online teaching.

SMO are well used to distance learning and although this is an abnormal situation for all of us, we are carefully planning to ensure continuity of learning and minimal disruption for all students, wherever you are based.

Exams will not take place on campus this academic year and students need not return to campus until the start of the next academic year in 20/21.

Students Services and the SMO Counselling Service will be available online from next week.

We understand that this is a very unsettling time for our SMO community but we endeavour to keep you informed and updated. Please keep an eye on the website for the latest updates.
