Professor Kenneth Mackinnon
We pay tribute to Professor Kenneth MacKinnon who passed away recently.
Professor MacKinnon, a true scholar and expert in Gaelic research, was a strong supporter of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig over the years and a good friend of the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Library.
He was involved in Gaelic research since the 1970s and his work contributed greatly to the revitalization of Gaelic. His research has illustrated attitudes and trends towards Gaelic itself and how it was and is used in communities.
In 2012 he made a significant contribution to the SMO Library of his research papers from his many studies on the Gaelic language in Skye, the Western Isles and Cape Breton, spanning over forty years. He visited the Library regularly to provide us with more papers and books examining the state of Gaelic.
The Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Library will forever be grateful to Kenneth for his valuable legacy, which will be useful to researchers interested in the preservation and development of the language and as a College, we are thankful for the knowledge and support he gave us over many years.
Our sympathy goes out to his family at this time.
