STUDENT ACCOMMODATION
Moving to college or university, whether it’s your first time away from home or not, is an exciting step in everyone’s life, and living in student accommodation can be great fun and can help you make fantastic new friendships.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig offers modern, comfortable student accommodation sited in spectacular surroundings overlooking the Sound of Sleat. There are 84 study bedrooms, all of which are en-suite and 3 of which are wheelchair accessible, with free wi-fi access. Bed linen and towels are provided and rooms are serviced weekly if required by the student. Each of the accommodation blocks has a kitchen area and common room and there are laundry facilities on-campus.
Full board catering is included in the accommodation package and the College is happy to cater for those with special dietary needs. Students and staff eat together in the College canteen so you will have the chance to get to know everyone.
All full-time students are guaranteed a place in College accommodation upon acceptance on to their course of choice.
RATES 2023-24
Accommodation and meals will cost £5,400 for the Academic Year 2023/24.
You will have to pay the first instalment of £600 before you arrive at the College – this must be paid to secure your accommodation and can be paid by cash (in person only) or by cheque or card.
You will also have to pay a £200 deposit as part of your agreement with the Facilities Department. This amount will be returned, subject to any deductions for damages, deficiencies or debts by the end of July following the academic year in which occupancy commenced.
You have a choice between three payment schemes this year:
1. You can pay the whole sum to the College in the first week -£4,800 (minus the £600 which must be paid in advance).
2. You can pay the remaining balance (after the initial £600) in two parts – £2,400 on 11th October 2023 and £2,400 on 11th February 2024.
3. You can pay the remaining balance (after the initial £600) monthly – £600 each month from 11th October 2023 – 11th May 2024.
Whichever option you choose you will have to pay £600 before you arrive. If this is going to cause problems for you then please tell us immediately.
Students living off campus should be budgeting for monthly payments including rent, electricity, council tax, telephone bills, food and other living expenses.
SELF CATERING
Self catering accommodation is now available at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. There are 17 places available and these places are offered to students on second year and up in the first instance. Self catering accommodation costs £4,050 for the year 2023/24.
LIVING OFF CAMPUS
Maybe you want to live off-campus? This can be a good solution, especially if you are bringing your family or children with you. It can be difficult to find houses or rooms available on long-lets near the College, so if you’re planning to study with us and you want to live off-campus, it’s best to get your plans in place as soon as possible.
To start looking for accommodation, it’s best to place an ad in the local newspaper – the West Highland Free Press – or in local shops, or ask to have a message sent out through the College’s internal email system.
