Support for Looked After Young People and Care Leavers.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is committed to providing all children and young people enrolled as students who have experience of being in care with a safe, supportive learning environment to enable them to successfully complete their course and encourage them to fulfil their potential. As a Corporate Parent, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig will endeavour to ensure that appropriate support systems are in place for this group of children and young people.
We are aware that young people who are in or who have left care may need extra support to get through college life, and we would encourage you to let us know on application if you are a care leaver so that we can offer assistance and support you through your time at the College. Examples of care are: residential care; foster care; and kinship care (cared for by friends or relatives other than parents).
If you disclose on your UCAS or university application form that you are a care leaver, then we can contact you and offer assistance and support before you begin your course. You may find that you don’t think you need any support, but if this changes at any point during the application process or throughout your course, please do not hesitate to contact Student Services.
Some of the additional support our Student Services team can offer includes:
- Financial advice
- Help with settling into college life
- Getting the most out of your student experience
- General advice and guidance including careers advice, accommodation, counselling and additional learning support if applicable
