Since the turn of the century, a series of programs have emerged in Cape Breton and on the Canadian mainland based on Social Learning: a teaching method that uses people and communities’ local resources to keep their Gaelic world lively and flourishing. This paper will explore their practices, philosophies, and teaching materials at every level (Bun is Bàrr, na Gaisgich Òga, Stòras a’ Bhaile), their outcomes, and their impact on groups and on individual lives.
