Gaelic Poetry Competition



The Second Annual Sister Margaret MacDonell Prize in Gaelic Poetry

The Department of Celtic Studies at St Francis Xavier University, in partnership with the Clan Donald Lands Trust,* is pleased to announce the second annual Gaelic poetry competition named in honour of Sister Margaret MacDonell, CND. Sister MacDonell is a Gaelic speaker originally from Judique, Cape Breton with a PhD in Celtic Languages and Literatures from Harvard University. She is professor emerita, and formerly head, of Celtic Studies at St Francis Xavier University.
 
Submissions should be sent by email to Dr Michael Linkletter, mlinklet@stfx.ca by the 9th of June 2020. The top three submissions will be selected anonymously by adjudication panel. The contest is open to anyone; however, only one submission per person will be accepted. Poetry on the theme of isolation and/or connection (broadly conceived) are requested.
 
Winners will be announced online on the 26th of June 2020: first prize: $500; second prize: $250; third prize: $100. By submitting, authors agree to have their poems potentially published in a future collection of winning poems.
