Announcing a new collaborative placement between Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and Glasgow Life

Glasgow Life and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig are embarking on a unique collaborative placement to look at Gaelic Arts from urban and rural contexts.  The collaborative placement will see Glasgow Life’s Gaelic Arts Producer being based at the Gaelic college in Skye for a period of up to 12 weeks in the early part of 2017.

The placement takes place as both organisations look afresh at their strategic plans for their Gaelic Arts programmes over the coming years.   Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is preparing to develop an Arts & Cultural strategy while simultaneously Glasgow Life, having recently completed an independent review of their work over the last three years, is carrying out consultation within the arts sector on their new Gaelic Arts Strategy [2017-20] for Glasgow.

The collaborative placement will aim to find a synergy between the two organisations by researching new models of working, hosting a series of open conversations to provoke new thinking and building on areas where they can work collaboratively over the next strategic period.

Sabhal Mòr Principal, Professor Boyd Robertson said “We are firm believers in the benefits of partnerships and are thus delighted to host this collaborative placement with Glasgow Life. Ever eager to find new ways to promote and develop Gaelic Arts, this initiative fits very well with our new Strategic Plan for 2017-22 .  As the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture, we are always seeking to find innovative ways of working and breaking new ground and this collaboration offers the prospect of making new and exciting connections nationally.”

Councillor Archie Graham, OBE, Chair of Glasgow Life, said: “The Gaelic Arts programme at Glasgow Life has delivered a number of important projects over the last decade. We continue to strive to find new ways to deliver our service to people across Glasgow and visitors to the city. Working with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, which has also been a sector leader in promoting and developing Gaelic Arts, will provide invaluable learning as both organisations look to develop our Gaelic Arts offerings.”
