Griogair Labhruidh appointed as new Music Lecturer
SMO is delighted to announce that the singer and musician, Griogair Labhruidh , will be joining the College as a Lecturer for the BA (Hons) Gaelic and Traditional Music.
Course Leader, Dr Decker Forrest commented: “The BA (Hons) Gaelic and Traditional Music programme is truly exceptional because it focuses first and foremost on the unique cultural values, approaches to learning and language-led musical interpretation that can only be fully understood through Gaelic medium education.
Griogair is an inspiration to Gaelic learners and musicians alike. His passion for the music, history, language and folklore of the Highlands has placed him at the centre of the wider Gaelic language revival and our students have much to learn from him. He will teach alongside other Sabhal Mòr Ostaig staff including the, renowned singer Christine Primrose MBE, and a host of visiting tutors comprising some of the best Gaelic-speaking musicians and academics.”
Griogair commented: “Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is at the heart of the development of Gaelic at an international level and I consider myself extremely fortunate to be joining this professional, proactive and dedicated team, that respects our language and our precious culture.
The BA (Hons) Gaelic and Traditional Music at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the only course which offers the opportunity for students to take their music to the next level through the medium of Gaelic, whilst emphasising the importance of the music, the culture and the language. The music course gives any student an advantage in taking their musicianship and learning to the highest level and I am looking forward to transmitting some of the precious knowledge I have learned over the years in an innovative, imaginative and creative way.”
