New publication about Gaelic Education
A dossier of information about Gaelic Education was published recently in the Netherlands. The dossier, which was compiled by Professor Boyd Robertson, Principal of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, is one of a series of information booklets about minority languages across Europe. The series is commissioned from experts within each language community and is produced by the EC funded Mercator Research Centre, based in the Fryske Akademy in Leeuwarden in The Netherlands.
Professor Robertson commented “This is the second edition of the dossier about provision for Gaelic in education in Scotland. The first was published in 2001 and much has changed in the intervening period. The intention is that these dossiers will be used by a wide range of people involved in all levels of education as well as by those with a general interest in the subject and those engaged in research and policy development.
The dossier covers all sectors of Gaelic education from pre-school and primary education through to secondary education, further education, higher education and adult education. There are also chapters about the history and development of the language, educational research and future prospects.
The dossier can be accessed through the Mercator website at:- https://www.mercatorresearch.eu/en/knowledge-base/regional-dossiers/
