Big Barn Sessions

Calling all young musicians, singers, bands, producers, DJs, sound artists, podcasters, filmmakers or composers! Would you benefit from spending three days, free of charge, working in a professional recording studio with an experienced sound engineer/producer? If so then, submit your idea to Big Barn Sessions for a chance to receive 3 days studio time free of charge at Stiùidio Ostaig on the Isle of Skye.

Big Barn Sessions / Seiseanan an t-Sabhail is a project which offers young people their first session in a professional recording studio. There are 6 sessions on offer, and each session is 3 days long funded by Creative Scotland and Youth Music Initiative with support from Stiùidio Ostaig / Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Applications are open to anyone who is 16-25 years old, living in the rural Highlands and Islands and is an artist or band who has not recorded professionally before. Entrants will be considered based on their creativity, ability, originality and commitment, with priority given to those who might have difficulty accessing studio time any other way and those who aren’t in full time education. There is also some funding available to support artists in getting to the studio if they require accommodation or transport.

There have been 11 young acts who have taken up this opportunity since 2014, including:

-Ellen MacDonald, who is now singing with Gaelic supergroup Dàimh

– Ros T, a young producer from Skye who mixed a track in the studio, which was released on the London label Eton Messy

-Rhuvaal, who recorded their first single with us in 2017

For more information about what is on offer, visit the Big Barn Sessions website.
