Iain Taylor will be discussing with Meg Bateman his book on Gaelic place names (Clàr 2025). Bho Pheairt gu Hiort allows us to become careful experts on a subject that is of interest to everyone. The book will outline some of the work that is done with place names: mapping the spread of Gaelic, language change and social history among others. We will discuss unusual redefinitions between Gaelic and English and the obstacles and challenges that come with the subject.
