Award-winning artist announced as 2026 Jon Schueler Scholar
Award-winning visual artist Anna Macleod has begun a twelve-week residency at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig after being selected for the prestigious Jon Schueler Scholarship.
The Residency, delivered in partnership between Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and the Jon Schueler Charitable Trust, provides artists working at the highest level of contemporary visual practice with the opportunity to research, develop and create new work in a studio overlooking the Sound of Sleat – the landscape that inspired internationally renowned abstract expressionist Jon Schueler (1916–1992).
Based in north-west Ireland, Anna Macleod is a Scottish-Irish visual artist, researcher and educator whose work explores relationships between land, water, culture and community. Working across sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, video and sound, her practice brings together archival research, fieldwork and collaboration to examine how people understand and interact with landscapes.
Speaking about the award, Anna Macleod said:
“The opportunity to develop new work while engaging with the Gaelic language, culture and creative community at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig through this amazing Jon Schueler Residency is incredibly exciting. I am particularly interested in exploring connections between place, environment, and cultural memory during my residency.”
Donnie Munro, Director of Development and the Arts at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, said:
“The Jon Schueler International Visual Arts Residency continues to attract exceptional artists from across the world, reflecting the enduring inspiration of the landscape that inspired Schueler’s work and imagination.
