INDIVIDUAL MASTER’S MODULES NOW AVAILABLE TO GAELIC TEACHERS
Not ready for a full Master’s? Study a single module instead
Gaelic teachers and education professionals can now study individual modules from Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s Master of Education (MEd) programme, offering greater flexibility for professional learning and career development.
The National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture is opening three free Master’s-level modules from its MEd, enabling teachers to study flexibly without immediately committing to the full qualification. Starting in September 2026, the modules available are:
- Immersion Education and Language Acquisition in a Minority Language Context
- Gaelic for Educators 1
- Gaelic for Educators 2
Anne Thirkell, MEd Programme Leader at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig said:
“As demand for flexible, high-quality professional learning opportunities in Gaelic education continues to grow, we are delighted to offer greater flexibility through our MEd programme.
“The three modules on offer provide Gaelic educators with an opportunity to enhance their professional practice, develop their Gaelic language skills and confidence, and engage with current research, while studying flexibly around existing work and personal commitments.”
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s MEd is free to GTCS registered teachers in Scotland and is funded by the Scottish Government. Applications are now open for study commencing in September 2026.
