Natalie Haas

Are you a lonely cellist in your trad community?

Do you struggle to break free from the bass line?

Join Natalie Haas, Su-a Lee and Trish Strain for a Scottish trad cello course as part of the summer Short-Course programme at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture.

We will spend five days on the beautiful Isle of Skye exploring all the possibilities of this versatile instrument, delving into cello-friendly repertoire and looking into how to best adapt fiddle melodies for our instrument. We will explore the cello’s role as an accompaniment instrument from 18th century through the chopping patterns of today.

Experience the joy of playing in a large cello ensemble; music will be available for all levels of players.

Come and celebrate the cello! (Basses also welcome.)

Timetable for the Week:

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 09:30 – 16:30
Wednesday: 09:30 – 15:00 (early finish)
