Conversation Class with John Urquhart – Online: 20 October 2025

19:00 – 20:30 each Monday, 8 weeks

This class will be taught through the medium of Gaelic.

This course provides a wealth of idioms and vocabulary that will deliver conversational fluency to take students from the level reached at Level 8 to greater communicative competence. You will learn idioms that native Gaelic speakers would recognize, preferred over the exotic forms that have been translated and taken from other languages ​​and cultures. This course provides words, phrases and idioms that would be recognized by those whose ancestors spoke our noble language over the centuries.

About John:

John Urquhart was raised in Harris, and after his school days, he attended Glasgow College of Art. When he graduated from there, he worked as a presenter on radio and television. He then went to the University of Aberdeen to study theology and spent 14 years as a minister: in Glasgow, Barra and Vatersay, and the Isle of Skye. Since then, he has been a lecturer at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and a broadcaster for the BBC, delivering podcasts such as Beag air Bheag, SpeakGaelic and SpeakGaelic Extra.
