Margaret Fay Shaw of Canna, first came to Scotland in 1920 when she was sixteen years old, from her home in Pittsburgh. She made the Isles her home, until her death in 2004. Her name is known primarily for the songs she collected, but there were many other aspects to her life’s work.
Who was Margaret Fay Shaw, where did she come from, why did she do what she did for the folklore of the Isles, and what is the legacy of her work, which spans over 80 years? Fiona J MacKenzie was archivist at Canna House for nearly nine years and she will talk about the resources we now have, and how special they are.
