The Centre for Teaching Excellence

The Centre for Teaching Excellence is a new national project funded by the Scottish Government, and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig will represent Gaelic Education within the project, working in partnership with the lead partners, University of Glasgow.
The project aims to create meaningful professional learning opportunities for teachers both digitally and online. Teachers in Gaelic Education face challenges and opportunities to deliver a curriculum and develop the language of their pupils at the same time. The ‘Gaelic Hub’ will support Gaelic teachers through new innovative learning opportunities.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is honoured to be working on this project, and our inclusion in the Centre for Teaching Excellence is a testament to the work we have been doing in professional learning for Gaelic teachers for several years now, particularly through the MEd in Gaelic Education.
We’d like to congratulate Shona Cormack and Anne Thirkell from our Teacher Education team, who have been working closely with the team at the University of Glasgow to deliver and launch the Centre. The Centre will begin work at the end of April and will initially run until April 2026. We will keep you updated on progress and opportunities that come from it.
