Prof. Boyd Robertson retiring as Principal of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig

Prof. Boyd Robertson will be retiring as Principal of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in the spring of 2018. Prof. Robertson has been at the helm of Sabhal Mòr, the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture, since 2008.

The Chair of the Board, Aideen O’Malley, said:

‘Boyd came to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig with a wealth of knowledge about the teaching and learning of Gaelic at school and university. Throughout the nine years he has spent here, he has added hugely to the reputation and standing of the college. During his time as principal, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig has earned itself an international reputation for Gaelic research and scholarship. We hope, difficult as it may be, that his successor can bring to the college the same energy and enthusiasm and the same breadth of knowledge of the world of Gaelic as Boyd has brought.’

The post of Principal will be advertised at the end of September in the expectation that the new Principal will be in post by the spring.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig offers a range of courses at both HE and FE levels to over 1,500 students a year, including undergraduate degree courses, research degrees and short courses. Sabhal Mòr is the third largest employer in the Isle of Skye with over 100 employees.
