Language learning as cognitive training

Dr Thomas Bak from the University of Edinburgh will give a lecture on the subject ‘Language Learning as cognitive training: implications for brain, mind and society’ on Thursday 13th August in the TDC, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig at 1pm.  Dr Bak is an international expert in the field of neuroscience and the effect of  bilingualism on brain mechanism.  One of his students, Maddie Long, has been looking at the effect Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s Short Courses have had on the students who have undertaken them and the fascinating results of her research will be heard during the lecture.  Dr Bak will also give mention to the research work in which he has been involved regarding the effect of bilingualism on the development of Alzheimer’s.
