Work by Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s artists in residence on display at the Royal Scottish Academy

Four artists who have been involved in Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s artistic residency programme are displaying their work as part of the Royal Scottish Academy’s “Resident 13” exhibition which is on show in Edinburgh at the moment.

The exhibition includes work from some of the best artists who have been involved in the Academy’s residency programmes which the Academy has sponsored in partnership with other organisations.

The exhibition can be seen in the RSA Lower Galleries where film, sculpture, pictures, physical art and photographs are on display. The RSA in staging the exhibition asked artists from three residency programmes to submit work for the show. The three programmes were, the RSA Residencies for Scotland programme, the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Residency Programme and the RSA John Kinross Scholarships programme which visits Firenze in Italy. The four artists to be chosen from the Sabhal Mòr programme were: photographer and current artist in residence at SMO, Alex Boyd, Mhairi Killin, Jessica Ramm and Aileen Stackhouse.

Kath MacLeod, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s Arts Development Officer, said: “The work on show by the four SMO artists is incredibly strong and diverse. The Creative Scotland Creative Futures residency programme at SMO continues to allow artists the space and time to develop and produce work of a high calibre. It is very encouraging that the Gaelic language and culture has such a strong representation in the Scottish contemporary visual art being produced today. ”

The exhibition will run until 27 October.
