Scottish Smallpipes with Fin Moore – On Campus: 13 July 2026
If you also require accommodation you will be able to add this to your basket after you have added the course. Further information about accommodation options may be found here.

Working on Scottish smallpipes in the key of A, Fin will guide participants through the driving rhythms, lift, and musical phrasing essential for Cape Breton step dance. Players will gain insight into the stylistic nuances that make this repertoire so distinctive, while deepening their understanding of the shared traditions that link Scotland and Cape Breton.
This five‑day course builds on Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s long‑established connections with Cape Breton culture, language, music, and dance traditions. Following in the footsteps of earlier short courses led by tutors including Mats Melin, Harvey Beaton and Buddy MacMaster, we are delighted this year’s programme continues that legacy with acclaimed Scottish piper Fin Moore, who himself as a teenager was immersed in the local Cape Breton musical community, returning there to teach and perform on many occasions later in life.
This course is suitable for pipers at intermediate and advanced level. Teaching will be primarily by ear with manuscripts to follow. Participants will provide their own instruments.
