Final places remain on fully funded Gaelic immersion course
Few places remain on Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s fully funded Gaelic summer school, An Cùrsa Drochaid, now in its third year.
The seven-week Gaelic immersion course starts on 29 June 2026 at Scotland’s National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture in the Isle of Skye. It is designed as an access course onto the flagship Gaelic gap year, An Cùrsa Comais CertHE, which can also serve as the first year of a full degree programme.
Deadline for entries to the summer school is 30 April 2026. Fees, accommodation and meals are all fully funded for successful applicants who will live, study and socialise through Gaelic while preparing for university-level study at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Director of Education and Vice Principal Dr Marsaili NicLeòid said:
“Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is a place where Gaelic is not just studied – it is lived every single day.
“An Cùrsa Drochaid, our fully funded Gaelic immersion course, runs over seven weeks this summer and enables students to build real confidence in the language while becoming part of a vibrant Gaelic-speaking community here in Sleat.
“This summer school provides those who have not yet had the chance to learn Gaelic with a bridge onto our Gaelic immersion and degree programmes.
“With growing demand for Gaelic education, An Cùrsa Drochaid plays an important role in developing the next generation of Gaelic speakers, professionals and community leaders.
“With only a few places remaining, we strongly encourage anyone interested – from school leavers to those on a gap-year, to life-long learners – to apply now and take advantage of this unique opportunity.”
Now in its third year, An Cùrsa Drochaid has been a huge success, enabling students to successfully continue to study for CertHE An Cùrsa Comais, opening the door to further study and careers in Gaelic.
An Cùrsa Drochaid – Gaelic Access Summer School is funded by the Scottish Government. Apply now and make Gaelic your future.
SAAS will waive previous study rules on CertHE Gaelic immersion courses at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Students who have already received funding for a degree or HN-level qualification will still be eligible to receive funding for our Gaelic immersion courses.
