NEW SABHAL MÒR OSTAIG CHAIR: ANGUS MACINNES
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig has welcomed Angus MacInnes from Paible, North Uist as its new Chairperson.
Angus MacInnes first joined Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s Board of Directors in 2016, when he was also appointed Chair of its Finance and Estates Committee. Vice Chair of the Board of Directors since 2018, Angus MacInnes takes over from departing Chairperson, Angus G. MacLeod.

Angus was brought up in a Gaelic-speaking household in North Uist, where he attended the local school and the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway, before going to the College of Building and Printing in Glasgow. He has been involved in the construction industry for over 30 years, working as a Director for the last 20 years. Angus has a keen interest in sport, and shinty in particular, and he is a trustee and President of Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club and Vice-President of the Glasgow Celtic Society.
Angus said:
“It is an honour to be appointed Chair of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s Board of Directors – a place of great importance for the Gaelic language and culture, and Scotland as a whole.
“Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s world-class learning opportunities are helping a new generation of Gaelic speakers reach their potential and contribute positively to the future of the language.
“This is an important time for Gaelic and for Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, with the new legislation in the form of the Scottish Languages Bill as well as challenges facing colleges and universities across the country at a time of economic difficulty.
“I would like to thank my predecessors – Aideen Ní Mháille and Angus G. MacLeod – who have, in the seven years that I have been on the Board, been a source of sage and helpful advice.”
