Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Annual Lecture 2022 with James Hunter

We are delighted that this year’s Annual Lecture is to be delivered by the eminent writer and historian Professor James Hunter, who set this prestigious lecture series in train by delivering the inaugural Lecture in 1990.

Professor Hunter possesses both an enormous depth of knowledge and a visionary approach in the history and the development needs of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

In his Lecture, Professor Hunter will travel far and wide, drawing together evidence from historical records, oral history, poetry and song, stories and arguments to show why it is so important to support initiatives that promote ambition, respect, confidence and vision. Professor Hunter considers the history of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig as an example of this and suggests the next steps Sabhal Mòr Ostaig can take to contribute to the development of the Gaelic language and culture.
