SABHAL MÒR OSTAIG FORMALISES PARTNERSHIP WITH NATIONAL LIBRARY OF SCOTLAND

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture, and the National Library of Scotland have officially agreed on a programme of greater collaboration with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU supports ongoing successful collaborations in the areas of research, teaching, access to and stewardship of national collections, knowledge exchange, public engagement in Scotland’s cultural heritage, and outreach as well as a commitment to skills development.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Principal Dr Gillian Munro said:
“An Leabharlann Gàidhlig / The Gaelic Library at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and its collections of rare books of great historic importance to the Gaelic language and to Scotland, have been at the centre of our work since Sabhal Mòr Ostaig was founded in 1973.
“We are delighted to build on our relationship with the National Library of Scotland with this new, formal link between our two national institutions. I have no doubt that by combining our talents and skills, together we will continue to make a positive impact on the Gaelic research community, on our literature, culture and history as well as on the furtherance of the Gaelic language and culture more generally in Scotland and internationally.”
National Librarian Amina Shah said:
“We are delighted to be launching our partnership with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig today. We have enjoyed a close working relationship together for many years, and share between us the largest – and some of the most significant – Scottish Gaelic collections in the world.
“Together we aim to connect communities with those collections, and to continue to promote Gaelic language and culture to the people of Scotland and beyond.”
The signing took place at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh. Signatories were: Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Principal Dr Gillian Munro, and National Librarian Amina Shah.
