STUDENTS AWARDED HIGHLAND COUNCIL BURSARY
Seven Sabhal Mòr Ostaig students have been awarded support from the Highland Council Gaelic Bursary Scheme.
The scheme, which has been running for 23 years, provides financial support to students studying through the medium of Gaelic in the Highlands and Islands.
The seven successful bursary recipients were all full-time students based on-campus at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the flagship Gaelic immersion year, and our popular BA (Hons) Gaelic with Education and BA (Hons) Gaelic with Traditional Music courses. Three of the students came to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig from within Skye and Lochalsh, and four others moved to the Isle of Skye especially for their studies.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Vice-Principal and Director of Education Dr Marsaili NicLeòid said:
“Financial support of any shape or form helps students to focus as much of their energies as possible on their studies. The Highland Council’s Gaelic Bursary Scheme can make a real difference and help students to reach their full potential.
“This is an investment in highly skilled, confident Gaelic students who will go on to work in Gaelic teaching, media, community development, the arts and other sectors, positively impacting the local economy and the future of the Gaelic language and culture. What a worthwhile cause, and a highly valued partnership with Highland Council that we hope will continue for many years to come.”
Students wishing to apply to this scheme need to be attending a full-time Gaelic course at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and based in the Highlands and Islands.
