We came together at the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture last week to celebrate the successes of 53 global graduates in an online ceremony.
Seven students received special achievement awards, including Marine Venturi from Switzerland who picked up the ‘Duais Comunn na Gàidhealtachd an Lunnainn’ prize for her progress in perfecting the Gaelic language. Marine came to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in 2019 after completing our distance learning course, An Cùrsa Adhartais.
“After completing Sabhal Mòr’s An Cùrsa Adhartais, there weren’t any opportunities for me to continue with Gaelic in Switzerland. I enjoyed the language and its culture so much, so that was really difficult for me. I upped sticks for a ‘gap year’ at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye to gain fluency in the language and I’m still here today, in my fourth year! It wasn’t the plan at all, but it’s such a special place and the people are so helpful and encouraging – who would want to leave?”
