PUBLIC CONSULTATION LAUNCHES FOR SABHAL MÒR OSTAIG GAELIC LANGUAGE PLAN
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture, has drafted its third Gaelic Language Plan and is now inviting responses as part of a 2-month consultation period.
The draft plan is available to view on Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s website and responses are invited between the 31st March to the 28th May. This consultation period will allow the public to provide views, comments, and recommendations on the Gaelic Language Plan before the final version is presented to Scottish government later in the year.
Angus MacInnes, Chairperson for the Board of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig:
“We are delighted to launch the third edition of our Gaelic Language plan. As the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture, it is vital that we set out a clear pathway to strengthen the Gaelic language in Scotland. Our Gaelic Language Plan directly aligns with the National Gaelic Language Plan (2023- 2028) and the Scottish Government’s ambition to increase the number of people speaking learning, using and supporting Gaelic in Scotland.”
Dr Gillian Rothach, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Principal, said:
“Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is a champion of the Gaelic language in Scotland and world-wide and our Gaelic Language Plan aims to reflect our priorities and aims for the upcoming years. The next few months give people an opportunity to add to our plan, and we encourage responses from communities, businesses, institutions, and anyone with an interest in the Gaelic language. We want to ensure that Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s final Gaelic Language Plan is representative of Scotland’s broad demographic.”
The consultation period opens on the 31st of March and closes at 5pm (BST) on the 28th of May. The public is encouraged to respond via email or letter and any responses should be sent to Sarah Jane Campbell, PA to the Principal: or Sabhal Mòr Ostaig An t-Eilean Sgitheanach, IV44 8RQ.
