Sabhal Mòr Ostaig cuts carbon emissions by 60% with renewable energy upgrades
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is cutting carbon emissions on campus by 60% following the installation of a new wind turbine, solar panel system and Air Source Heating system.
These developments are part of a wider decarbonisation project that will save the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture an estimated 196 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is inviting the public to take part in a Gaelic naming competition for the new two-bladed turbine – celebrating sustainability and highlighting the role of Gaelic in shaping a more sustainable future.
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Principal Dr Gillian Munro said:
“We are proud to be cutting our carbon footprint by 60% while helping to power our campus with a new wind turbine and solar panels.
“Generating clean, on-site energy reduces our costs while supporting our wider mission to promote the Gaelic language, culture and community.
“The two-bladed turbine was carefully selected for its efficiency and low noise, ensuring it fits well into our campus environment.”
These projects have been funded by the Scottish Government through the Scottish Green Public Sector Estate Decarbonisation Scheme.
